Amanda Seyfried clarified that the viral video of her singing the hit “Popular” from “Wicked” was not her audition to play Glinda for the film.
The actress cleared the air while speaking to People magazine on Tuesday, saying she shot the now-surfaced video during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I Didn’t Audition for ‘Wicked’ not yet, but I knew it was coming,” she said, adding that she was actually just around.”
“I think it was during COVID. I did a Lancôme shoot in Long Island City. Elizabeth Stewart [was] my stylist…. And I thought, ‘This dress is so Glinda. And Elizabeth said, ‘Do it.’ And then at some point she posted.
Seyfried then questioned whether or not she should have posted the video at all, saying it was just “fun” and done purely “for fun.”
However, People reports that Seyfried actually auditioned for the role of Glinda, although Ariana Grande ultimately took the role.
“I worked hard for that, that’s for sure. And it was a very long process. And everything happens as it is meant to happen,” she said, calling the film “fantastic.”
“It’s an extravaganza, and that’s what she does [Grande] is doing very well,” says Seyfried. “And [my kids] have been playing the soundtrack non-stop. And everything is as it was meant to be.”
