Concrete: stops thieves!

We’ve seen a lot of weird, crazy car theft stories, but this one from Lakewood, Washington really makes us laugh. A woman tried to drive this stolen Mini through a roundabout that was under construction. The British car got stuck in the still wet cement. Instead of just giving up, the woman got out of the car and fell through the cement with a small child and a large bottle of liquor. Fortunately, a city inspector on the scene quickly called 911 and the would-be thief was arrested.

Find out here why car thieves recruit children.

We can’t imagine what this scene looked like, like it came out of a movie. Luckily no one was hurt, but when we heard how this all went down, things suddenly didn’t seem so funny anymore.

A local journalist interviewed the mother of the 33-year-old woman who was arrested. She says her daughter stole her car because there’s no way you can say “thank you” to your parent who tried to help you, as if you took their car without permission.

What’s worse, the mother says her daughter has a chronic drug addiction problem and mental health issues. The child who was in the Mini when it became stuck in the cement is the daughter’s four-year-old son. Despite being her daughter, the mother wants serious charges to be filed and serious consequences to follow. It sounds like she has been through a lot for years and desperately wants her child to get help.

She even noted in the interview that she could have planned a funeral instead of asking for her daughter to be charged with misdemeanor assault. The Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed through a spokesperson that this was on the table so the mother could see her wish come true.

Addiction is something that destroys families because those who love someone the most are repeatedly hurt. We hope that this woman somehow decides to change her life and does just that, for her mother, for her son and for everyone else. We also advise against driving through wet cement.
